Just got back from the Arctic Monkeys (yeah, best band name ever! Aside from Convulsing Vulva, that is.) show @ Avalon, and I cannot tell you just how much it rocked 'cause I was dancing my ass off and, therefore, far too busy to take notes.

However, since I love you all, I did upload my four favorite songs from their CD so that you can join me in the glee.

Arctic Monkeys

Please do d/l. They are phenomenal (and, also, CUTE! and TINY! Seriously, I'm 5'3" and these guys looked small to me. Eeeep!) Plus, they have kick ass lyrics. Witness:

Fake Tales of San Francisco
Echo through the room
More point to a wedding disco
Without a bride or groom
There's a super cool band yeah
With their trilbys and their glasses of white wine
And all the weekend rockstars in the toilets
Practicing their lines
the rest )

Go on, you know you want to give them a try.
As I gather, the idea is to make your own soundtrack. Pick a song for each scene in a movie.

How could I resist?

Showing off new Faith icons. I love my girl.

Lyrics are from k's Choice's Hide, my perfect season three Faith song:

Watch me, I'm coming closer
I am the mood you're in tonight
Pretty poseur, Perfect Armageddon bride
I am circle, it feels right
I am the one who swallows light
Multiplying parasite
Perfect features, perfect sight

You who thought you had it all
Lost your leaves before the fall
You should have killed me
You should have tried
Armageddon bride, hide, hide

Watch me, bright but blurry
Yet you knew I've always been
In a hurry to contaminate what's clean
Drawing whiskers in the sky for fun,
to cover up the sun
As you sting me with your laughter

Hide, hide (Armageddon bride)

I got the base for the second one from a website and now I can't find it... damn. If anyone knows, please tell me.

I really want to do a whole set of these now. Hmmm.

Also made an Eliza icon... If anyone wants it, just drop me a comment.

The show was amazing.

Getting to feel the crowd at a live performance is pretty amazing all by itself, and I've often found myself getting swept up into a show when I wasn't a fan, just on the strength of the devotion to the band I could feel from the crowd. Examples: Nine Inch Nails (I grew up in Puerto Rico, had never even heard of the band, saw them about a month after I moved to the States and haven't stopped listening since), Linkin Park (they have a great vibe live), and Queens of the Stone Age (I like three of their songs offstage; live, I love it all).

Delerium has always been a strange animal for me. I love their CDs but mostly on the strength of their collaborations (Silence featuring Sarah MacLachan, Fallen Icon featuring Jenifer Mclaren, and Flowers Become Screens featuring Kristy Thirsk, being the most prominent) so I didn't quite know what to expect from a live show by the band without any of the high-profile guests.

They were incredibly good. The band was tight, the singers were good enough to put out a reasonable rendition of Silence, and the bass player, whose name it is now my quest to discover, had enough stage presence to carry the rest of the group.

This all adds up to: They sounded great, I heard some of my favorite songs, and I danced my ass OFF!@!

All in all, a great Sunday night.

The 20 songs to download meme got me thinking, so here's one of my own:

One relatively unknown band I like to pimp to my friends: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

Why I think everyone should check them out: They sound like a slightly less depressed and more rocking incarnation of Jesus and Mary Chain. They are incredible live. I just saw them last night for the third time, and each of their shows has been even better than the last one.

Couple of songs to download:
1. Whatever Happened To My Rock N Roll (Punk Song)
I fell in love with the sweet sensation
I gave my heart to a simple chord
I gave my soul to a new religion
Whatever happened to you?
Whatever happened to our rock'n'roll?
Whatever happened to my rock'n'roll?

2. Spread Your Love
Spread your love like a fever
And don't you ever come down
Spread your love like a fever
And don't you ever come down
I spread my love like a fever
I ain't ever coming down.

In other music news, I get to see Delerium tonight! This weekend is making me very happy. Not quite making up for having missed Justin, but still, happy.

4.Heather Nova - Paper Cup "I'm always drawn to the dark horse."
5.Garbage - Milk "I can use my tears/ to bring you home."
6.Dido - My Lover's Gone "No earthly ships will ever bring him home, again."
7.Mazzy Star - Into Dust "I could feel my eyes turning into dust."
8.Portishead - Roads "I got nobody on my side/ and surely that ain't right."
9.Wild Strawberries - I Don't Want To Think About It "You rendered me conscious./ Cut my innocent face."
10.k's Choice - Hide "Pretty Poseur/ perfect Armageddon bride."
11.Alphaville - Forever Young "The music's played by the/ the madmen."
12.Gang of Four - I Parade Myself "Everything is in my reach/ I parade myself."
13.Filter - The Best Things "Got a green light, yeah/ but I'm going nowhere."
14.Beborn Beton - Another World "Back away from the place where my ashes are buried."
15.Wolfsheim - Once In A Lifetime "I don't pretend that I love you/ 'cause there is nothing left to lose."
16.VAST - Touched "The razors and the dying roses/ plead I don't leave you alone."
17.The Smiths - This Charming Man "It's gruesome/ that someone so handsome should care."
18.Depeche Mode - Halo "You wear guilt/ like shackles on your feet/ like a halo in reverse."
19.Duran Duran - Come Undone "Cannot keep from falling apart at the seams."
20.Aimee Mann - This Is How It Goes "Cause I don't have a bribery in place/ no bright, shiny surface to my face."

Tired now.

Ok, I'm currently sitting at my computer with my phone to my ear, bouncing up and down in my chair, as my friend Mike, who works at Axis, lets me listen to CMAR.

It is soooo sad that hearing this through a scratchy cell can make me this happy.

I'll probably squeal and do all kinds of "things umbecoming a (former, lapsed?) goth" if I manage to get tickets to the Avalon show on the 29th.

Best part so far: "all the things people told me keep f***ing with my head." Dude. Why is it so hot when SDBs swear?

Went to the Warped tour today. Much fun was had, although the traffic on the way to the concert sucked. Not because it was there, but rather because of the reason it was there.

It seems that the town of Randolph, Mass. decided it didn't want any of us miscreants driving through their town, so they closed the exits off the highway - as well as the most direct route to the location of the concert, of course. :P

Oh, well. The shows were good. I missed most of Andrew W.K., but I got to see Dropkick Murphys (they were great, their fans not so much), The Suicide Machines (must get new CD), Rancid (rocked, just rocked!) and my favorite punk cover band of all time, as well as the only one I know, Me First and The Gimme Gimmes (so freakin' funny).

Now I'm tanned and tired, so off to bed I go.

ETA: Forgot the funny! Best sightings of the day:

--Guy with a 6-inch-high purple mohawk wearing a NKOTB t-shirt.

--Sign by the entrance counting the number of CB GB t-shirts sighted. LOL!
