My favorite anime series to date is called Serial Experiments Lain. It's a beautiful cyberpunk gem. If you saw the Animatrix, you've seen the animators' later work. They did the story about the girl who wanders into an unsteady segment of the Matrix while trying to find her cat.

Lain has thirteen episodes. The story follows this girl as she becomes drawn into "The Wired" (which is very much like a future generation internet - all virtual reality/chat/rpg), after a classmate and friend who was supposedly dead sends her a message. (you can insert slash here, btw, it's got plenty of subtext *g*)

On top of the great story and the gorgeous animation, the music in this series kicks ass. I recently got the soundtrack, so I thought I'd share the opening song. It's in English, which is unusual, and sounds like a cross between The Cranberries and Sneaker Pimps. So... right-click, save-as, enjoy.

Duvet - Opening theme - Serial Experiments Lain

Lyrics:
And you don't seem to understand
A shame you seemed an honest man
And all the fears you hold so dear
Will turn to whisper in your ear
And you know what they say might hurt you
And you know that it means so much
And you don't even feel a thing

I am falling, I am fading
I have lost it all

And you don't seem the lying kind
A shame then I can read your mind
And all the things that I read there
Candle lit smile that we both share
and you know I don't mean to hurt you
But you know that it means so much
And you don't even feel a thing

I am falling, I am fading, I am drowning
Help me to breathe
I am hurting, I have lost it all
I am losing
Help me to breathe

If you should be so inclined, there's a torrent for the whole series over on Manga Tracker. Hi-res, and, when the site is up, there's usually plenty of seeds.

- Black paper notebook
- silver gel pens
- MP3 player
- Discman
- JC Chasez's Schizophrenic
- two burned CD's (Lust for Life Mix, and Grrl!Music Mix)
- cinnamon gum
- Marlboro Lights 100's
- lighter
- lip gloss
- Splenda (pilfered from Dunkin' Donuts)
- T combo pass
- wallet (black leather, Psycho embossed in front)
- cellphone
- keys

That's a lot more crap than I usually carry around. Most of the time I just stick my ID, T pass, money, and cell in one pocket and my keys and smokes in another.
There's a ton of pretty fireworks going off outside my window. I'm fairly certain they're illegal. See, the fire department is about a block away from my apartment, and they just dispatched a bunch of trucks. Heh.

Lance should come visit. Tons of explosives to "ooh" and "ahh" over. LOL
