Putting up just a few pages of the manga I've been reading. Particularly apropos in view of this entry by
sisabet, I think. *g* No big eyes and pointy hair in sight, I swear!
It's a common misconception about both anime and manga that most of it is done in a similar style. There's actually as big a variety as there is in western animation and comic books (probably more now that I think about Disney and Marvel). It's just that most people first get introduced to anime through series that fall pretty much under the same genre: shounen, or stories aimed at boys. It really depends on the artist. Here's a few pages from my two favorites:
First up, Youka Nitta. I love her work. My favorite is Haru wo Daiteita, which is the story of two adult film stars that end up falling for each other. The series just gets better as it goes on, more emotionally complex. The characters really change throughout it, which is lovely. So, here are two pages from the second chapter: ( just a little kiss )
These are taken from the scanlation done by Essence of Purity, where you can d/l the first two vol. of the manga, if you're interested. That kiss leads to really hot sex, if that helps. *g*
Those are the boys on my current lj layout, btw.
And two pages from Amano Yamane's Viewfinder, which is also a favorite. Pretty hard yaoi, all about a young reporter who should have thought twice before letting a scoop get him in the way of a particular mob boss. ( the first meeting )
These are from Shi-Ran's scanlation. Their own links seem to be out-of-order, but at the bottom of the page there is a listing of mirrors, those are still working.
...and, those are the boys on the icon. So now you know. LOL
