I've been meaning to do this:

Everyone probably knows this one by now, but, just in case: Below are the first lines of the first twenty songs that came up when I put my player on random. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to identify the songs. Cool? Here we go:

01 "This bed is afire with passionate love" James - Laid [livejournal.com profile] _jules_
02 "I start it, I end it / I kill and words will defend it"
03 "When I was a young girl I used to see pleasure" Nina Simone - When I Was a Young Girl [livejournal.com profile] _jules_
04 "There's a moon over Bourbon Street tonight"
05 "Whatever"
06 "All my people in the crowd" Britney Spears - Me Against the Music [livejournal.com profile] _jules_
07 "Down in the park where the marksmen meet" Foo Fighters - Down In the Park (Gary Numan cover) [livejournal.com profile] strippedhalo
08 "I made it through the wilderness" Madonna - Like A Virgin [livejournal.com profile] _jules_
09 "This is my stuff / Got to get off"
10 "Under a blackened sky" Sarah McLachlan - Wait [livejournal.com profile] jennytsk
11 "Into you so far our words go / so much clearer then you hear"
12 "I'm good for inspiration, aren't I?"
13 "Last nite / she said" The Strokes - Last Nite [livejournal.com profile] _jules_
14 "The hour is out of joint / Black sun has risen"
15 "Been given 24 hours / To tie up loose ends"
16 "There's a little black spot on the sun today" The Police - King of Pain [livejournal.com profile] strippedhalo
17 "Come down to my house"
18 "With your feet in the air and your head on the ground" The Pixies - Where Is My Mind? [livejournal.com profile] _jules_
19 "Dear God / Broken life / Come on / Laugh this time"
20 "Tried to save myself but myself keeps slipping away" Nine Inch Nails - Slipping Away (or Into the Void, either one is good, according to our research. LOL [livejournal.com profile] pir

Okey doke... some of these first lines are the actual title of the song so that should make it easier. *g*

That took so much longer than it should have to type up... but I just had to listen to all the songs!

ETA: Bolded songs have been correctly id'ed.

1. James - Laid
3. Nina Simone - When I Was A Young Girl
6. Britney Spears - Me Against the Music
8. Madonna - Like A Virgin
13. The Strokes - Last Nite
14. I don't know what it is, but dude, it sounds morbid.
18. Pixies - Where Is My Mind
20. Gah! This is so familiar, but I can't think of it.

Yay! I love this meme!

You are gooood at this meme!

14 is somewhat morbid, but it is such a beautiful song. I uploaded for you, should you want a listen. ::wavy hands:: mystery song (http://s12.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3142A97A9AA7700354320D388E8348AC)

I have the same problem with 20. LOL I know the song; I know who sings it; I can never remember the title. I'll keep you posted. ::wink::

Also, Eeeeee! red suspenders! You are entirely to blame for how happy seeing that icon makes me.

From: [identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_jules_/

RED! SUSPENDERS! I love them so much!!!!

Oooh, thank you for the song. It's very nice! Though, not nearly as creepy as I thought, based on the lyric. It's much prettier.

Bah! I had to peak at 20 when I saw it had been bolded. I was thinking NIN but all of their songs end up being one big song to me. I can never distinguish them.

More importantly, who are those two attractive young men on your journal layout supposed to be? Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm glad you like the song. I've listening to David Gray a lot lately. So mellow, yet angsty. *g*

I can never remember the title of that song... which is bad since I love dancing to it, and everytime I request it, I end up singing it to the DJ. LOL

The young men are Iwaki (with the dark hair) and Katou (the pretty blond thing). They're the main characters in one of my favorite mangas, "Haru wo Daiteita". If you want to see them in action, I posted a few pages here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/grissecon/109119.html). Mmm. Pretty boys kissing.

(from memory)

"This bed is afire with passionate love,
the neighbors comlplain about the noises above,
but she only comes when she's on top,
you think you're so pretty..."

Love that song :)

(and I think 20 is nine inch nails "Slipping away", but thought that one started with "I keep slipping away")

Good memory!

And that is NIN, it does start with the whole line, but that's not the title of the song... Hee. I have the same issue with that song, I can never remember what's it's actually "called".

From: [identity profile] pir.livejournal.com

I've been listening to that James album for, oh, 10 years now ? I rmember being annoyed the first time i heard the radio edit... feh.

According to the CD of "Things Falling Apart" the first track is called "Slipping Away", the first line of lyrics (a ways in) is "I keep slipping away... away... away". Don't think those lyrics got reused or remixed anywhere but I could be misremembering.

From: [identity profile] grissecon.livejournal.com

Huh. Is there more than one version of the song?

I have it from "The Fragile" and it's listed as "Into the Void".

From: [identity profile] pir.livejournal.com

Ah, from The Fragile (right), it's almost the same song... but not quite.

The Fragile came first, the right CD is Halo 14, Things Falling Apart is Halo 16.

From: [identity profile] grissecon.livejournal.com

Ahh, that explains it! My ID tags are not sophiscated enought for that. *g*

Either way, kick ass song.

From: [identity profile] pir.livejournal.com

I had to go look at my CDs to get the Halo numbers :)

It (either version) is my favorite nin tracks and one of my favorite bits of club music...

From: [identity profile] grissecon.livejournal.com

Hell, yeah.

I particularly love dancing to it. It's got this great: slow, build... go fucking crazy dynamic to it.

07. 'Down In the Park' by Gary Numan? (Okay, so I've never heard his version, just the Marilyn Manson one, and the vocals are a bit slurred on that one, so I don't remember this exact lyric, but I think it's a pretty fair guess. What with "down in the park" being in the lyric and all. *g*)

16. The Police... 'King of Pain'? I think?

And #2 seems very familiar to me, but I can't pull it out of my head just now.

From: [identity profile] grissecon.livejournal.com

This is just too perfect! 7 is, indeed, "Down In the Park"... but the version that came up is a cover by The Foo Fighters (uploaded here (http://s17.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=73AF290914B62D5E60E275CA69A6DF2C), in case you want to hear it.) Synergy. LOL

Also, good one, on "King of Pain". My player's random function seems to know just what songs I love but haven't listened to in ages.

I'll let you know about #2.

From: [identity profile] grissecon.livejournal.com

Close! It's "Wait" by Sarah McLachan. But you get credit anyway because that was a hard one. I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to tell who it was at all from just that line.
